The Ashfords’ first home in Santa Rosa, CA was lost to the 2017 Tubbs Wildfire. Seeking to return to their hillside vista and regain a home, the clients sought out Alchemy Architects for their experience in modular design.

Partnering with a factory outside of Los Angeles, the custom home was able to navigate tight road restrictions and arrive onsite partially complete. In total, three custom modular units– shifted in plan to maximize northeasterly mountain views– were set upon a concrete plinth poured into the hillside.

The circulation space in the center of the home doubles as a gallery punctuated by skylights and views out into the Calistoga Valley.
