We reinvigorated a midcentury home through the insertion of a high-contrast kitchen with a worn, industrial verve.

An existing porch (that someone had sided-over during a previous renovation) was incorporated into the main living space through the addition of a dropped steel beam. The now open-plan kitchen simplifies the circulation and connects the home to the side yards for dogs, kids, and parents to chase in and out, full-tilt, no-stopping.

The design includes honed granite countertops, a brick-tiled backsplash, charcoal and oiled white oak cabinetry, and all-new appliances. Where old meets new, the red structural beams outline and trace what was once there. The cabinetry bars and pantry banks highlight the many dinners, get-togethers, and parties yet to be had.
