Golden Valley, MN
The basement of this Golden Valley home was completely gutted except for the mid-century fireplace. The design required iterating different layouts to compactly accommodate a laundry room, pantry, kitchenette, dining and entertaining space, as well as a bedroom and mudroom into a modest walk out basement space.
The outcome is a timeless material palette of rift sawn oak cabinetry, white walls, gold hardware, and black structural elements. Large, sliding glass doors were installed with the aid of an existing dropped steel structural beam embedded in the existing foundation wall. The bathroom / sauna is hidden within a wood slat wall with a clean trimless door detail.
