This kitchen takes inspiration from the homeowner, who lives with a respiratory illness, found her old kitchen and laundry layout a chore and an opportunity to redesign. Through this remodel, we streamlined the layout and added functional storage, new and safer appliances, and a main-level washer and dryer allowing for a more flexible daily life.
The existing kitchen had a deep pantry closet that ineffectively held both a cat box and cleaning supplies. Removing the back bedroom closet and combining the pantry allowed for a deep galley kitchen wall with a dedicated cat zone and convenient access to a new laundry area. New floor tile helped level an uneven floor and new maple cabinetry with a custom tambour profile refined the interior space. A tall and narrow window was also slotted into the back hall, bathing the hall in daylight.
This renovation promotes that design ought to inspire mutability: the way things are is not their final state, only their most recent iteration.

Built into the cabinetry, keep fabricated a custom mug shelf of solid maple for the homeowner’s ceramic collection.
